Att Home with...Kate Allamby

Design Director Kate Allamby invites us into her beautiful home in Linlithgow, where she lives with her husband and two cocker spaniels. The founder of Studio Heim, Kate is passionate about crafting spaces that feel like true sanctuaries. We love her use of natural elements and considered colour palette that bring warmth and tranquility into every space she curates. Drawing inspiration from her travels, artists, and platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, she blends thoughtful aesthetics with a deep understanding of how design shapes daily life.

What are your top 5 things that you couldn't live without in your home?

As a homebody who loves creature comforts, it’s hard to narrow it down, but here are a few essentials that come to mind:

  1. Our big comfy green sofa: This is where we spend most of our evenings, curled up with the dogs. Even with all of us, there’s plenty of room to spare, making it the heart of our home.

  2. Cushions and blankets: I’m all about comfort, and there’s nothing better than being wrapped up in a blanket, surrounded by cosy cushions.

  3. The dog shower in the boot room: Once you have one, you’ll never look back. It keeps those mucky paws from tracking dirt into the house—a game-changer for dog owners!

  4. My plants: I have a bit of a houseplant obsession. They might be a handful to care for, but they bring life to the space and make our home feel truly alive.

  5. Artwork and photos: Our walls are filled with memories—photos of friends, family, our wedding, and art pieces we’ve collected on our travels. I’ve even created a few art pieces myself, using the colours that flow through our home.

Is there a piece in your home that has traveled with you from each place you have lived in? What is it, why do you love it?

I have an old white Windsor chair that I found on the street in Brixton years ago. I fixed it up, painted it, and it’s been with me ever since—nearly a decade now! It’s been sat on, broken, and repaired multiple times, but it’s still going strong. This chair has been in bedrooms, hallways, and bathrooms, often serving as a plant stand. I’m not exactly sure why I’m so attached to it, but it’s a perfect example of how one man’s trash can truly become another man’s treasure.

Anything new you are looking to add to your home currently? Or update?

We’re in desperate need of a proper desk for my husband. We’ve got our eyes on the iconic String System because of its adaptability, which is perfect for the odd space we need to fill. I’m eager to get his workspace off the dining table!

Was there a place or something you saw recently that inspired your home style?

We recently visited Morocco, and I was blown away by the beauty of the ceramics, textiles, and the overall aesthetic. The riads, with their stunning zellige tiles and earthy tones, were especially inspiring. We couldn’t resist bringing home a few treasures—a couple of tasselled throws and a beautiful albino camel rug that I hope will be passed down through generations.

Where do you find inspiration for your interior style?

I find inspiration from so many places—whether it’s countries I’ve traveled to, the colours in nature, or the rich variety of ideas shared by designers and creatives online. Instagram and Pinterest are particular favourites, with their endless stream of visual inspiration.
